My name is Vince Rasbury. I have been a Christian for about 40 years. It is hard to believe that much time has gone by since my baptism as an early teen. (How many of you have already done the math?) That experience as a child of God has shaped my life in many ways. This is the most important relationship in my life. When I reflect on my life as a disciple, I realize that there have been many times that I have disappointed the Lord with my stumbles and failures. But I am thrilled by the excitement and hope that my relationship with the Lord gives me, not just for an eternal life with Him (although that alone is worth it all), but for tomorrow, whatever that brings. I am reminded of Paul’s comments:
“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14
For the last several decades, I have been a part of a local congregation of disciples that are now meeting in Inver Grove Heights (Inver Grove church of Christ), which is near St. Paul, Minnesota. This is a wonderful group of Christians committed to simply being the Lord’s church as described in the New Testament. The relationships I share with these people are very special to me. I have grown a lot over the years and a great deal of that is due to the blessings that have come from working, worshipping and learning together. The different roles that I have had as a part of this local congregation have challenged me to learn to think, teach and lead, but mainly to develop a passion for God’s Word. I am learning to trust God, not only for eternity, but for tomorrow. These experiences are part of what has led me to start this blog.
The second most significant relationship in my life is the one I have with my wife, Pat. She is an amazing blessing to me and a wonderful woman. The fact that we share a relationship with the Lord makes it even more special. We have been married over 30 years, but it seems that we are just getting a good start at an exciting life together. She is my best friend. We have a son, who is married and lives in Texas. They have a beautiful little girl (my granddaughter) and another on one the way (another granddaughter). I am proud of them and the life they are building together. Oh, and did I mention my granddaughter? This is a new kind of relationship for me, and it is something special.
At the risk of boring you altogether I will add a few other tidbits. My education and profession are in science and engineering, which may help explain my analytical and geeky personality. Or, maybe its the other way around.
I have recently rediscovered a passion for photography. That and this writing appeals to a different kind of creativity.
